On the morning of July 15th, Professor Naoko Taguchi of Northern Arizona University was invited to present a lecture entitled "Implicature comprehension in second language: Theories and research findings " at the the Second Language Acquisition, Cognition and Brain Science Academic Forum. As the second lecture of the forum, it was initiated by Professor Wang Jianqin (director of the Center for the Cognitive Science of Language), and hosted by Dr. Wei Yanjun. The lectures were transmitted live by Zoom Bilibili, which attracted hundreds of domestic and foreign audiences.

In this lecture, Professor Taguchi first introduced three pragmatic theories, namely Grice's theory of cooperation principles, Sperber and Wilson's relevance theory, and Kecskes' social cognition theory. Professor Taguchi pointed out that although all these theories put the speaker's intention at the center of the theoretical hypothesis, they differ in their interpretation of how to understand the speaker's intention. Next, Professor Taguchi introduced to us her empirical research on the second language understanding of suggestion, satire and cross-cultural communication under these three theoretical paradigms. The experimental results basically support the corresponding theoretical paradigms. At the end of the lecture, Professor Taguchi gave us four directions for future research: 1). Implicature comprehension in interaction; 2). Comprehension of humor; 3). Humor and indirection. Understanding teaching (Teachability of humor and other indirectness comprehension); 4). Multimodal processing and eye tracking research.

Professor Taguchi's lecture are not only rich in content, but also explained the profound things in a simple way. At the end, Professor Taguchi patiently answered the questions raised by the teachers and students. Professor Taguchi pointed out the future research direction for us, which is of great significance to second language pragmatic teaching and research.
