Professor Ruiz de Mendoza was Invited to Gtive Academic Report at the 2nd Language Acquisition, Cognition and Brain Science Forum

On the afternoon of June 30th, the Center for the Cognitive Science of Language, Beijing Language and Culture University held the first lecture of the 2nd Language Acquisition, Cognition and Brain Science Academic Forum via Zoom. The lecture, titled "Understanding resemblance and correlation constraints on figurative thought and language", was lectured by Professor Francisco José Ruiz de Mendoza Ibáñez, who’s an internationally renowned cognitive linguistics expert from La Rioja University in Spain. The lecture was hosted by Professor Chen Xianglan. Teachers and students from home and abroad participated online lecture through Zoom and Bilibili. The online audience reached 1,400.


Professor Ruiz de Mendoza is the editor-in-chief of the SSCI Cognitive Journal Review of Cognitive Linguistics, the dean of the School of Modern Languages at La Rioja University, and the former president of the Spanish Society of Applied Linguistics. In addition, the renowned international research organization Lexicom (www.lexicom.es) was founded by him. He has presided 6 national projects and published more than 150 influential papers in top international journals such as Journal of Pragmatics, Language and Communication, Language Sciences, Cognitive Semantics, Language and Cognition, and was invited to speak more than 60 international conferences.


Professor Ruiz de Mendoza has always been willing to share his latest research with Chinese scholars. This time, he lectured his latest research, which illustrates the classification and restriction conditions of resemblance and correlation in metaphors and metonymy. He integrated the classification of resemblance with his earlier proposals into a new theory with consistent interpretation. Another classification principle is to reclassify through open and closed perspectives. Professor Ruiz de Mendoza's research on metaphor and metonymy has always been at the forefront of the world. His research has brought us inspiration and encouragement, and the classification and interpretation made have left us a deep impact. His research allows us to experience the beauty and fun of theoretical research. This lecture has a large amount of information, and the teachers and students participating in the conference admire his theoretical foundation and eloquence.
