On April 6, 2023, Professor Shaofeng Li from Florida State University was invited to give an academic report titled "Working Memory and Second Language Writing: A Systematic Review" for the faculty and students of our university. This report was the first lecture of the 5th Academic Forum on Language Acquisition, Cognition, and Brain Science organized by the international talent introductionCCSL. The report was hosted by Deputy Director JiangRong, and nearly two hundred people attended the report online.

The report mainly consisted of two parts: The first part was an overview of the research background. Professor Li explained the concept of working memory, introduced the most influential working memory model- Baddeley's working memory model, and the measurement methods of working memory. The report discussed the link between working memory and writing subprocesses, research designs and methods in monolingual writing, and the differences, connections, and correlations between first language and second language writing. Professor Li emphasized the importance of studying working memory in second language writing research. The second part was the research summary. Professor Li elaborated on the relationship between working memory and writing quality, introduced the latest research results, and discussed future research directions.
In the Q&A session, attending faculty and students asked questions actively, and professor li provided detailed answers and valuable suggestions on the issues seen in their current research. the report was informative, interesting, and deepened the audience's understanding of working memory. it greatly expanded everyone's research vision and thoughts and provided significant academic inspiration.
