(February 2020), edited by Professor Jianqin Wang, the director of the Center for Cognitive Science of Language, BLCU, was officially published by the Commercial Press. The four-volume book series is a part of External Chinese Education Study series, which includes "Research on Learners Learn Chinese as a Second Language", "Research on the Language System of Chinese Language Learners”, “Research on Chinese Language Acquisition from a Cognitive perspective”, and “Research on Chinese Language Acquisition from Multi-perspective”.
15 years ago, renowned scholars in the field of TCFL gathered in the Commercial Press, they were invited to jointly plan and publish the first research book series (22 books) in 50 years of TCFL. Among them, there are three book series of Research on Learning Chinese as a Second Language, which was edited by Professor Wang.
Now, fifteen years later, in the 2nd chapter of the book series, readers can find the latest research results in multiple research fields in the past decade (2005-2016) on the study on the acquisition of Chinese.
The main features and highlights of the four-volume edition of "Research on the Acquisition of Chinese as a Second Language" include the following:
1. This series of books has selected nearly one hundred excellent academic papers from thousands of published results. However, this anthology is not simply a collection of the papers, the classification of each volume reflects the new field and current development direction of the second language acquisition research. From the framework of the anthology, readers can understand the current status and trends of the development of Chinese language acquisition research at home and abroad.
2. In the past 10 years, many new fields have emerged in the study of Chinese acquisition. The representative research results are mainly reflected in "Multi-angle Study of Chinese Second Language Acquisition". The so-called "multiple perspectives" are actually multiple research areas formed by the combination of second language acquisition research and theories of other disciplines. Such as the perspective of linguistics, the perspective of sociolinguistics, the perspective of social culture theory, the perspective of cognitive linguistics, the perspective of linguistic typology, etc. Among them, the cognitive perspective is the largest research field of second language acquisition research, it forms a book separately for its spectacular academic results. The "multiple perspectives" of Chinese language acquisition research reflect the new progress of Chinese language acquisition research. The study of Chinese language acquisition in the 21st century is far more beyond the research fields studied by foreign countries in the 70s and 80s.
3. In this series of books, the research results reflect the reference and integration of the Chinese language acquisition research and international second language acquisition research. On the one hand, domestic Chinese language acquisition research proceed from the reality while combining and referencing foreign second language acquisition theories, and no longer work behind closed doors while blindly emphasis on the characteristic of Chinese language; on the other hand, there are innovations on the introduction and absorption of western theory, such as Chinese learners' phonetic acquisition research and Chinese character cognition research.
4. The research results collected in the four-volume Chinese language acquisition research are no longer limited to theoretical translations but focus on investigation and experimental research on Chinese language learners' acquisition of Chinese. The areas of experimental research include Chinese phonetics, vocabulary, syntax, chunks, and discourse. The research methods are diverse and focus on empirical research.
In short, on current, it is safe to say that the four-volume Chinese Language Acquisition Study is a comparatively systematic and comprehensive collection of research articles and series of Chinese language acquisition studies at home and abroad. Whether it is a Chinese language acquisition researcher, a first-line Chinese language teacher, and graduate students in related majors can benefit from it.
