On October 30, 2019, Professor. Li Heng from Southwest University gave an academic lecture in BLCU at the invitation of the center. The lecture was titled “Time will give you the answer – the influence of time coordinates on the cognitive representation of time and space metaphor of Chinese”. This lecture was hosted by Dr. Yang Qun, a researcher at the center.
The lecture revolved around the theory of "time focus hypothesis". The main point of the theory was that the metaphorical connections between time and space before and after in people's mentality were mainly determined by their attention to past and future time. Professor Li Heng summed up the relevant researches in the past and pointed out that it was necessary to pay attention to the influence of time coordinates, which has not been covered by previous people, on people's time perception. Next, Professor Li Heng explained three related experiments. Through experiments, Professor Li concluded that the spatial representation of the concept of time may differ due to different time coordinates. This change can be explained by the "time focus hypothesis theory".
After the lecture, the teachers and students asked questions on the content of the lecture. Professor Li answered in detail and he also shared valuable experience on thesis writing. Professor Li Heng's lecture combined academic knowledge and essay-writing knowledge. The content was substantial and practical, and the teachers and students benefited a lot.
