In October 2023, Stanford University and Elsevier Data Repository jointly released the sixth edition of the "World's Top 2% Scientists" ranking. Among the honorees is Professor James Lantolf, a Distinguished Professor at the Language Cognition Science Innovation and Introduction Base of Beijing Language and Culture University. Professor Lantolf has been recognized as one of the top 2% scientists in the field of education, specifically in the sub-discipline of linguistics, based on his exceptional academic achievements in linguistic research.

About the Ranking:

The World's Top 2% Scientists ranking is a collaborative project between Elsevier and Professor John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University. The ranking is published on the Mendeley Data website, which is owned by Elsevier. Based on citation data from the Scopus database, the ranking analyzes various metrics such as citation count (distinguishing between self-citations and citations from others, with self-citation data provided), H-index, and HM-factor to calculate a composite score (C-score). Using both "career impact" and "annual impact" as criteria, the ranking selects the top 2% of scientists from nearly 7 million candidates, categorized into 22 broad fields and 176 subfields. This ranking provides a measure for evaluating the long-term scientific performance of researchers, reflecting their influence more objectively and accurately.
