On September 15, 2023, at the invitation of Center for the Cognitive Science of Language, Associate Professor Liu Huanhuan from Liaoning Normal University delivered two academic presentations for our faculty and students. The topics of the presentations were “Cognitive Mechanisms and Genetic Basis of Bilingual Control.” This event served as the 6th lecture of the 5th Language Acquisition, Cognition, and Brain Science Academic Forum, which was conducted both online and offline. The presentation was hosted by Vice Director Jiang Rong, with over 160 participants in attendance.
During the presentations, Associate Professor Liu Huanhuan mainly covered the following topics: first, language control mechanisms of bilingual individuals; second, the impact of lexical composition rules on language control; third, the essence of language switching - the hypothesis from emotional signals; and fourth, improving the neural mechanisms of language control using principles of reinforcement learning. The presentations were informative, engaging, and provided new insights for research in the field of bilingual control.
During the interactive session, the participating faculty and students actively asked questions,Associate Professor Liu Huanhuan answered them carefully, and put forward valuable suggestions regarding challenging issues in their research. This academic presentation deepened the understanding of the cognitive mechanisms of bilingual control among the faculty and students, expanded their academic perspectives, and greatly benefited all participants.
