Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the list of newly established key laboratories for 2022, and the "Language Cognitive Science Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education," relying on Beijing Language and Culture University, has been successfully approved. This marks a significant breakthrough for our university's key laboratory construction, from having no key laboratory to having one, and the national scientific research platform supported by the key laboratory is the “Language Cognitive Science Discipline Innovation Introduction and IntelligenceCCSL” of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology.


The key laboratory was guided by President Liu Li, coordinated by the Research Development Office, and led by Professor Wang Jianqin from the Language Cognitive Science Research Institute. Leveraging our university's advantageous subject resources and excellent research teams, the laboratory focuses on the interdisciplinary subject of "Language Cognitive Science" and achieved success with the concerted efforts of the entire university.

The key laboratory’s research areas include the intersection and integration of three distinctive secondary disciplines: "Language Cognitive Science" from the Language Cognitive Science Research Institute, "Language Pathology" from the Language Rehabilitation College, and "Language Intelligence and Technology" from the School of Information Science and Technology. This has formed three comprehensive interdisciplinary research fields: “Language Cognitive Neuroscience,” “Language Pathology and Cognitive Neuroscience,” and “Language Intelligence and Neuromorphic Research.” These research fields reflect the depth of integration and innovation of the key laboratory in Language Cognitive Science, Cognitive Neuroscience, Computer Science, and our university’s three distinctive disciplines.

The overall development goal of the key laboratory is to conduct research in the above-mentioned three comprehensive interdisciplinary research fields in three aspects: First, conducting Chinese language acquisition and cognitive neuroscience research for foreigners, serving the strategy of promoting Chinese language international communication and cultural power; Second, conducting cognitive neuroscience research for children with language barriers, practicing the "Healthy China" initiative; Third, conducting research on Chinese language intelligent learning and neuromorphic technology for foreigners, aligning with the "China Brain Project" and serving the national strategy for scientific and technological innovation development.

The successful approval of the "Key Laboratory of Language and Cognitive Science" by the Ministry of Education is a significant achievement in our school's disciplinary construction and scientific development. The key laboratory will focus on technological innovation and the forefront of technological development according to the relevant management regulations of the Ministry of Education's key laboratories. It will implement an open and flexible operational mechanism, form a large team with an international academic perspective, set up open subjects, innovate talent training models, strengthen international cooperation and research, and continuously promote the construction and innovation of interdisciplinary disciplines in our school.
