On October 23, 2019, Professor. Lu Chunming from Beijing Normal University gave an academic lecture in BLCU at the invitation of the center. The title of the lecture was “Study on the Brain Mechanism of Parent-Child Interaction and Language Development of Hearing-Impaired Children”. This lecture was the first lecture of the "Language, Cognition and Brain Science Series" of our center. It was hosted by Dr. Yang Qun, a researcher at the center. More than 50 teachers and students from both inside and outside the university listened to it.
The main contents of the lecture were as follows: Firstly, Professor Lu Chunming took the specificity of language as the starting point, and introduced the important role of interpersonal interaction in language processing. Combined with experimental research, it showed that the listener and the speaker would have brain synchronization when communicating. The intensity of synchronization was positively correlated with the level of understanding. Secondly, Professor Lu explored the brain mechanism of normal children in parent-child interaction. The conclusion of the study indicated that social interaction was very important for the specific connection between parents and children. Accompanying was better able to establish the attachment between parents and children. Finally, Professor Lu talked about the language development of hearing-impaired children. The experimental results showed that the brain synchronization level of hearing-impaired children was higher than that of normal children, and brain synchronization between parents and children may help the language rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children.
After the lecture, the teachers and students actively asked questions, and Professor Lu answered in detail. The content of this lecture had a strong social and practical significance. The teachers and students present deeply felt that academic research was closely related to real life. It was indeed a thought-provoking lecture.
