Professor James Lantolf, a specially appointed professor at the Talent IntroductionCCSL, delivered a graduate international course on March 30, 2023. The course, titled "The Implicit/Explicit Puzzle and Its Relevance for Instructed Second Language Development", explored the differences between implicit and explicit knowledge as well as declarative and procedural knowledge in various second language acquisition theoretical models such as skill acquisition theory and sociocultural theory. Over 100 domestic and foreign teachers and students participated in the online seminar hosted by Jiang Rong, the deputy director of the talent introductionCCSL.
ProfessorLantolf pointed out that different models and theories have different attitudes towards the contributions of implicit/explicit knowledge to the results of second language acquisition. During the discussion session, participants actively discussed the course content with professor Lantolf and he patiently answered their questions.
The course was rich in content with clear logic, and professorLantolf explained the problem from multiple perspectives, deepening our understanding of the impact of implicit/explicit knowledge on second language acquisition. the course was highly enlightening.
