2023 Graduate Freshmen Enrollment Education Series Events Successfully Launched

From September 11th to 13th, the Center for the Cognitive Science of Language held a series of education events for the enrollment of the 2023 graduate freshmen. Let’s review this series of education events that were packed with knowledge and of significant meaning!

1.Meeting between Research Supervisors and Freshmen

On September 11th, thecenterorganized a meeting between the research supervisor and the freshmen. Professor Wang Jianqin, the director of thecenter, warmly welcomed the new students and highlighted the nature of thecenter,the construction of disciplines and specialties, talent cultivation goals, and more. Professor Wang specifically pointed out that thecenteris an international and open scientific research institution with language cognition science as its discipline construction target, which is supported by the “Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Plan” project of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education. Thecenter’s international scholar team and domestic scholar team jointly mentor the graduate students, cultivating well-rounded talents with international academic perspectives, language cognition science teaching and research abilities. In addition, Professor Wang also provided valuable advice on mentor selection and research planning.

The attending mentors introduced their individual research directions and interests, allowing the freshmen to gain a deeper understanding of the mentors. After the mentor introductions, the freshmen introduced themselves one by one, filled with anticipation and yearning for their upcoming graduate studies.

2.Lectures on Disciplines, Specialties, and Career Planning

Following the meeting, Vice Director Jiang Rong gave a lecture on disciplines, specialties, and career planning to help the freshmen better understand the disciplinary specialties and plan their studies during the graduate stage. Jiang provided an introduction to the language cognition science major, its application prospects, research content, talents cultivation, and future planning, fully showcasing the diverse and internationalized curriculum offerings and research activities of thecenter.At the end of the lecture, Jiang advised the freshmen to read more, think critically, learn more techniques, and publish more articles to establish a solid foundation for their academic research.

3.Visit to theCenter’s Language Cognition and Neuroscientific Laboratoriesand ConductLaboratory Safety Training

On September 13th, thecenter’s graduate association organized a visit to thecenter’s “Language Cognition and Neuroscientific Laboratories” for the new students. They visited the eye tracking laboratory, electroencephalography laboratory, speech laboratory, and near-infrared laboratory in turn. Faced with professional experimental equipment, the freshmen showed great curiosity and enthusiasm, actively engaging in communication and asking questions. Afterthat, Professor Lu Ji, the laboratory supervisor, conducted laboratory safety training for the freshmen. Lu introduced the laboratory equipmentin more detailand emphasized the laboratory safety precautions, requiring the students to strictly follow the regulations for using the laboratory.

4.Graduate Student Freshmen and Seniors Exchange Meeting

On September 13th, thecenter’s graduate association organized an exchange meeting between the freshmen and seniors. The meeting was hosted by the vice chairperson of the graduate association,Xie Shiyang, and attended by all the new students. Representatives from the seniors of the 2022 class introduced their research group and theirmentor’s main research focus. They also shared their experiences and achievements since starting graduate studies to help the new students gain a more comprehensive understanding of the mentors and choose thementorrationally on this basis.
